POSITION PURPOSE:Â

The south Salt Lake County reporter stringer will generate and deliver broadcast content for KSL NewsRadio that is clear, compelling and accurate – and focused on south Salt Lake County. They will work closely with our web team on digital content development and news content. Stringers will either pitch story ideas for approval or be assigned stories from the newsroom with an expected work time of four hours, except in the event of long-form or investigative work, which will be assigned and approved on a case-by-case basis. Â

This is a primarily remote role with the possibility to work occasionally on-site at KSL NewsRadio in Salt Lake City.Â

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Â

  • Enterprise news stories about south Salt Lake County, or other locations as assignedÂ

  • Cultivate and maintain news sources Â

  • Search for stories, meet interviewees, edit, record and report out in the community whenever possible, working from home or other isolated locations infrequentlyÂ

  • Present news in a concise, conversational and accurate manner on-air and online Â

  • Create objective news content that will be consumed by a broad and diverse audience over multiple platforms Â

  • Write quickly, clearly and accurately Â

  • Meet deadlines Â

  • Effectively and appropriately use social media to present stories via all available media channels Â

  • Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays under deadlines Â

  • Occasionally assist with breaking newsÂ

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Â Â

  • College degree in communications, journalism, or other relevant field OR two years relevant experience Â

  • Naturally curious; aggressive in pursuit of information Â

  • Understanding of beat reporting and the ability to cultivate sources and stories Â

  • Ability to consistently work hours required, with more on occasion when required to meet deadlines Â

  • Exhibits courage, discipline and judgment Â

Â

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:Â Â

  • Proficiency in sound production and audio editing, including editing programs (Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, AudacityÂ

  • Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)Â

  • Experience with audio recording equipment preferred Â
