Occupational Health & Safety Manager

The Occupational Health and Safety Manager is responsible for the health and safety of Central Kitchen Oregon (CKOR) Team Members. This role will develop and execute CKOR’s strategy for proactive/engaged Team Member safety, leveraging industry best practices and regulatory guidance. This position will support the VP of Supply Chain and VP of Manufacturing to achieve the company’s safety objectives by administering all safety programs including training programs, workers compensation and incentive programs, overall site safety compliance within OR-OSHA guideline and assist in administration of security related policies/ programs as needed. Support and administer shared safety/ security programs to improve safety culture company wide. The Occupational Health and Safety Manager will implement policies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Regular (weekly) inspection of the facility to identify and minimize safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Develop and implement inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
  • Develop health and safety procedures for all areas of Salt & Straw Central Kitchen Oregon.
  • Prepare and schedule training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
  • Develop and deliver monthly safety topics, company wide.
  • Lead and support the safety committee.
  • Monitor compliance with safety procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Develop metrics to target areas of improvement and measure implemented changes.
  • Audit compliance training, ensuring Team Members have completed annual requirements.
  • Draft inspection reports to summarize and document inspection findings.
  • Ensure that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
  • Maintain records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
  • Administer Workers Compensation; investigate on the job injuries, track appointments and work releases, coordinates with Human Resources.
  • Investigates all Team Member injuries, auto accidents, general liability claims.
  • Solicits feedback and identifies benchmarking opportunities within the industry to identify tools, processes, systems and equipment to reduce the risk of injury.
  • Support and manage site specific security policies and programs.
  • Develops and manages SOPs on Team Member contagions related to COVID 19, etc.
  • Oversees company’s response in the event of significant safety event.
  • Serve as on-site incident leader in the event of a severe injury.


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assist with any OSHA inspections including recordkeeping and OSHA investigations.


Qualifications:
To perform the job successfully, an individual should have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years occupational safety experience with knowledge of manufacturing/industrial EHS.
  • CSP, GSP or ASP through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals preferred.


Knowledge and Critical Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA standards, regulations and policies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Ability to conduct training.
  • Working knowledge of insurance: property, workers compensation, general liability and auto liability.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
