Northern Media Specialist - Green Bay Campus Job at Wisconsin Humane Society

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is looking for a full-time Media Specialist to join our marketing and communications team! The Media Specialist works out of our Green Bay and Door County Campuses, and is responsible for developing and stewarding relationships with local media, appearing and presenting on TV and radio, pitching news stories, preparing and coordinating recurring media segments, submitting content to meet deadlines of various media partners, training media volunteers, tracking and reporting, and supporting the communications and marketing department on special projects. This person will join a creative, fun marketing and communications team that is excited to support this newly-added position!
Core Accountabilities:
- Serve as the key public spokesperson for our Green Bay and Door County Campuses.
- Respond to media inquiries and interview requests in a timely fashion.
- Positively and professionally represent the Northern Campuses on weekly TV, radio, and virtual interviews.
- Write and distribute brand-consistent materials including media scripts, press releases, and animal features for media distribution.
- Foster and develop strong, positive relationships with media partners.
- Coordinate media appearances
- Coordinate all media appearances to maintain a high level of confidence in the programs, services, and knowledge that WHS provides for people and animals.
- Plan media schedule, write scripts, select appropriate animals, and prepare supplies for each segment.
- Train volunteer and/or staff media presenters. Oversee media presenters by managing the appearance calendar, training new presenters, and providing feedback and coaching as needed.
- Provide strong, positive internal communication regarding media appearances
- Support the communications department including distributing media clips, providing reports on media segments, and other tasks.
- Support the southern media calendar by doing virtual segment interviews, as needed.
- Support the marketing and communications team at WHS events, as needed.
Qualifications
- Public-speaking experience on television or radio, including virtual interviews
- 2-5 years of experience in public relations or communications strongly preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail in all aspects of work
- Emotionally capable of handling high-pressure situations in a professional manner in a fast-paced environment.
