Substance Use Specialist - Healthy Transitions Job at Newport Mental Health

NMH offers an excellent opportunity for anyone considering a career in mental health to gain knowledge and experience and to learn/strengthen therapeutic skills in a multidisciplinary setting by helping people to overcome their disabilities and meet their life goals.We are currently seeking a motivated, caring and empathetic Substance Use Specialist to join our Healthy Transitions program which serves youth and you. Partnering with care teams in Middletown and working throughout our residential homes in Rhode Island, the Substance Use Specialist coordinates care for our clients across disciplines.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide individual substance use counseling to assigned caseload in accordance with policy & procedure.
- Lead group activities and group therapy related to substance abuse and addictions.
- Participate in comprehensive inter disciplinary team treatment planning and activities as indicated or scheduled.
- Collaborate with other disciplines, and coworkers as needed in order to ensure client needs are met.
- Educates clients regarding specials issues associated with substance abuse treatment.
Qualifications:
- CDP certified or a Bachelor's Degree with major in social science or related field
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to professionally communicate verbally and in writing with a variety of individuals
- Caring and empathetic, with the desire to help others in need
- Self-motivated and independent, with the ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines
- Valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation to travel to our facilities throughout the area
