The Server Engineer maintains various software applications and related server and storage infrastructure. This position is responsible for proactively monitoring and maintaining the applications and services to deliver a high level of availability and reliability and is also responsible for protecting the integrity and security of Denton County data. The Server Engineer is required to provide excellent customer service, resolve problems in a timely manner, communicate effectively, and be a positive contributor to the Denton County Technology Services team.

Examples of Duties

Installs, configures, maintains, upgrades, and troubleshoots servers, storage area networks, Active Directory, server operating systems, software applications, monitoring tools, and other related components.

Performs email administration.

Ensures server performance and maintains reliability and high availability of servers and applications.

Performs server administration, continuous system health checks, and installs patches and upgrades.

Provides technical support to troubleshoot application and server issues.

Provides malware protection on all servers and malware/spam protection on email systems.

Performs data backup, network security, file system permission management, and data protection duties.

Assists in planning and deployment of disaster recovery procedures.

Provides network and desktop management support.

Coordinates and works with vendors to resolve problems or configure new services.

Creates specialized reports as needed; documents all work and maintains related files and records.

Follows county policies and best practices related to information security; exercises good judgment to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Denton County computer systems and electronic records; supports compliance with CJIS, HIPAA, and other information security regulations.

Displays and reflects the culture, mission, vision, values, and direction of the department.

Regular and punctual attendance is required.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of four years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.

Position may require various computer or technical-related certifications.

Proficiency in VMware, Microsoft Windows Server technologies, Microsoft SQL Server, Office 365, SharePoint Server, Microsoft Skype for Business, NetApp and EMC storage solutions, Commvault Intellisnap and Endpoint Backup, Genetec Security Desk, SolarWinds Orion, and Cisco UCS hardware preferred.

Must not have any Class B misdemeanor or higher convictions or deferred adjudications.

Possession of a valid driver's license required. Must obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment.
