Senior Director Human Resources Job at Pet Supermarket
Location: Sunrise, Florida
The Senior Director, HR will the lead HR organization with responsibility for the strategic planning and development of Human Resources policies and practices for Pet Supermarket. The scope of the role includes oversight for talent acquisition, employee relations, payroll, organizational planning, compensation & benefits, performance management, leave administration, training & development, and compliance. The Senior Director will act as a resource to Senior Management (e.g., CEO, Vice Presidents).
Essential Duties
- Develop the HR strategy for all functional areas of Human Resources to ensure it aligns with organizational goals and priorities.
- Provide guidance to the Talent Acquisition team to strategically source and recruit candidates for the Corporate Office and Stores.
- Administer employee health & welfare plans, and 401(k) plan, to ensure benefit and coverage offerings are competitive and cost effective. Manage annual open enrollment process, coordinate & facilitate broker discussions, and review and recommend plan design changes when necessary.
- Maintain all HR policies and procedures and confirm all are reflected in the Employee Handbook and Substance Abuse Policy. Evaluate handbook content annually.
- Ensure employment law compliance in the nine states that Pet Supermarket operates in.
- Provide oversight for the annual appraisal, goal setting and progressive discipline process, and provide guidance to department heads and field leaders when addressing employee issues.
- Manage payroll team to make sure that wages are paid in a timely manner and all wage and hour laws are complied with.
- Provide oversight for leave administration and compliance, including Workers’ Compensation, FMLA, STD/LTD, and other statutory leaves.
- Evaluate salary structure and coordinate compensation processes, including compensation research & recommendations, salary adjustments, costing of recommendations, job evaluation, salary range structure development and maintenance.
- Use HR analytics to evaluate and determine employee engagement trends and address areas of opportunity.
- Oversee the development of training & development initiatives and coordinate regularly with subject matter experts
- Determine and recommend employee relations practices necessary to establish positive employer-employee relationships and promote a high-level employee.
- Direct a process of organizational planning that evaluates structure, job design and workforce forecasting throughout the Company. Coordinate activities across division lines.
- Select and coordinate the use of Human Resources consultants, staffing agencies and other outside resources.
Experience & Education
- 10-15 years of progressive Human Resources Management experience, preferably in mid-large sized organizations. Retail experience strongly desired.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, majoring in Human Resources or other related field.
- PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience managing a team of 5 or more individuals.
- Knowledge of HRIS/HCM systems required. Knowledge of Workday is preferred.

- Able to attract and retain a team of Human Resource professionals who can meet the needs of the organization.
