The Senior Development Officer will provide leadership, strategic guidance and supervision of development staff in the Office of Institutional Advancement & Alumni Development. The position will collaborate with the Vice President for External Affairs to manage Development Officer portfolios and meet strategic and campaign goals of the department. Additionally, the position will manage a full portfolio of prospects made up of alumni, parents and friends of Upper Iowa University. The position will work with a variety of university stakeholders to engage prospects and to develop and implement cultivation and solicitation plans, including crafting written proposals and collateral materials to support prospect and donor engagement. The position will seek to secure funding at different levels in accordance to where prospects and donors stand within the cultivation continuum. The position will document alumni engagement activities in detail within the University data management system.
Essential Duties Summary
  • Collaborate with VP External Affairs and other University leadership to develop strategic plan for major gifts
  • Identify potential donor affinity with institution and develop customized strategies of prospect and donor engagement
  • Lead Development team in efforts to secure major gifts and planned gifts that advance University priorities
  • Ensure accurate and consistent documentation of communication and interaction by Development team in the University data management system
  • Assist in development and management of Development budget
  • Collaborate with Vice President for External Affairs to establish goals and measurable performance metrics
  • Create internal and external networks that assist with identification of new potential donors and prospects
  • Create and foster relationships that support University initiatives to promote student internship and career development opportunities and corporate partnerships
  • Maintain an awareness of professional best practices and trends and utilize to strengthen personal and team performance
  • Be a valued, conscientious and cooperative team member in pursuit of attaining institutional goals
  • Commit to highest standards of personal and professional integrity
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5 years experience in not-for-profit fundraising
  • Direct involvement in securing major gifts and/or planned gifts for not-for-profit organizations
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing and managing budgets
  • Supervisory experience
  • Master’s degree
