Job Overview: The Phlebotomist/Medical Receptionist has responsibilities and duties related to patient care in a clinic laboratory and front desk setting. The applicant will be responsible for checking in patients for their appointments, performing venipuncture on patients, urine drug screen collections, and be responsible for communication between the clinic and the corporate laboratory that runs all specimens. Secondary tasks include inventory, charting, and filing.

Primary Responsibility:
Clinic Laboratory:
  • Organizing and sanitizing the lab and patient room in preparation for collection
  • Phlebotomy: Venipuncture, Intravenous Infusions, Vitamin Injections
  • Specimen collection, including urine samples, at various sites with VMW partners
  • Preform clinic lab duties including, but not limited to: handling specimens, urine rapid drug testing, and shipping specimens
  • Label creation and data entry into LIMS and/or EMR system
  • Verify patient identity and obtain patient demographics
  • Complete lab requisition forms and assist with data entry into spreadsheets
  • Appropriately label and ship specimens
  • Confirms and clarifies physician and lab orders
  • Assists with stocking clinic laboratory and clinic inventory
  • Work as MA when needed

Front Desk
  • Greet patients with a friendly and welcoming demeanor
  • Maintain stock of forms and office supplies
  • Ensure reception, entrance, and other clinical spaces are well maintained, neat and clean
  • Safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Register patients according to established protocols
  • Assist patients to complete all necessary forms and documentation including medical insurance
  • Ensure patient information is accurate including billing information
  • Inform patients of medical office procedures and policy
  • Maintain and manage patient records
  • Move patients through appointments as scheduled, including directing them to the appropriate rooms or locations
  • Answer incoming calls and deal with inquiries
  • Transfer calls as required
  • Schedule patient appointments
  • Collect co-pays and payments
  • Report statistics as required
Schedule hospital admissions, tests, scans and outside appointments
  • Communicate with patients through the clinics Patient Portal/Klara.
  • Performs related and delegated tasks
  • Works with health care team to assure efficient patient flow and clinical operation.


Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Phlebotomy Skills (2+ years)
  • UA, saliva specimen collection (6+ months)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Common blood testing knowledge
  • HIPAA Compliance
  • Strong computer skills
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, EHR (Electronic health record).
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills

Required Education, Experience and Credentials:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Phlebotomy Training and Proficiency

Additional Position Details: (hours, locations, commute)
  • Monday through Thursday 8am to 4:30pm
Ability to facilitate for up to 10 hours a day
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
  • Constantly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, talk and hear
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
