Starr Regional Medical Center is currently seeking talent to fill the position of Medical Records Specialist for our Health Information Management Department. This job is permanent, full-time.

Core competencies include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Check the ‘Hold Queue” in Fluency for Transcription and process held documents.
  • Checks for any transcription issues
  • Reviews and maintains Deficiency Watch List and process appropriately.
  • Notify Chief of Staff of providers with Delinquent deficiencies.
  • Review / Work Autogenerated HMS “Duplicate History Number Listing”.
  • Run Admissions List for patients daily and add to spreadsheet; work the spreadsheet for H&P Review.
  • Make psych admits confidential in HMS / GUI.
  • Run Surgical List for patients daily and add to spreadsheet; then work the spreadsheet for operative report completion.
  • Add New Providers or Update Providers in HMS.
  • Add tele-psych consult to spreadsheet
  • Search M*Modal for dictations.
  • Send out deficiencies weekly to providers.
  • Assembles and analyzes the record for chart completion deficiencies, in accordance with regulatory requirements and medical staff rules and regulations.
  • Ensures any deficiencies are assigned to the appropriate medical staff member and data is entered for tracking and monitoring purposes.
  • Reviews documentation and updates or clears the deficiencies as appropriate.
  • Responsible for answering telephone calls and assisting visitors (including but not limited to physicians, patients, and their family members), while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Performs release of information in accordance with HIPAA and state release of information laws.
  • Performs daily scanning duties of patient charts into electronic health record and quality assurance audits to ensure appropriate location within record.
  • Performs all State of TN monthly and quarterly reporting
  • Performs daily monitoring of IMmodal Transcription and monthly audits


Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent: Preferred X Required

Associate’s degree in Health Information Management or related field: X Preferred Required

Required Skills

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
