Medical Records Education and Compliance Specialist Job at UBMD Pediatrics
General Summary: The compliance and education officer is responsible for ensuring the organization remains in compliance with all regulations, requirements, and reporting results of compliance and ethics of the organization. The CCO is also responsible for monitoring and oversight of the organization’s compliance activities and making sure that any actions needed to correct deviations from the corporate compliance program are decisive and immediate. The CCO serves as the coordinator of the University at Buffalo Pediatric Associates, Inc. practice HIPAA compliance plan.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Develops, initiates, maintains, and revises policies and procedures for the operation of the compliance program.
- Works to promote compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, rules, and policies of governmental authorities and payers.
- Develops and coordinates compliance education and training.
- Develops and coordinates medical records documentation and training.
- Oversees coding reviews with all providers. Works with medical staff to resolve coding issues and associated problems.
- Conducts periodic medical record audits for every provider to ensure documentation is consistent with billing.
- Conducts and coordinates internal compliance audits and reviews. Responds to incidents of suspected compliance violations by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures. Takes appropriate actions as approved by the COO.
- Acts as Liaison with UBA Compliance Department
- Acts as Liaison with Kaleida Health’s Compliance Department.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education: Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in business administration or health care administration. Certified coding background required.
Experience: Minimum three years of experience in health care with at least one year inhealth care compliance.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of health care laws, regulations, and standards.
- Understanding of coding and reimbursements systems, risk management, and performance improvement helpful.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Able to understand and interpret insurance laws and regulations.
