Family Medicine of Mt. Pleasant P.C. is Southeast Iowa's premier comprehensive primary care clinic – helping patients with acute, chronic, and preventative health care. Our providers collectively have over 100 years of experience.

Each caring team consists of a Physician and a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, dedicated to serving the health care needs of Southeast Iowa communities.

Basic Function: Applies professional medical assistant skills in the care of patients in a clinic setting. The individual (s) in this position will perform duties in any of the areas described in the nature and scope of job description or as assigned. Job duties will overlap or incorporate depending upon the work situation.

The medical assistant receives general supervision from the Clinic Manager, or designee.

Nature and Scope: Functions as patient advocate and active member of the health care team. Performs job responsibilities in a manner to promote safety and customer satisfaction for all patients, self, and associates. Collects data, i.e. assesses data related to patient’s and significant others perception of illness. Prioritizes needs identified by assessment, incorporating specialized knowledge base, and makes changes based on patient or customer (internal & external) needs. Assesses learning needs of others. Communicates clearly and conveys appropriate information to patient, family, and associates. Evaluates understanding of treatment plan and/or instructions.

Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to perform intramuscular, subcutaneous and intradermal injections.

Assist with a variety of minor procedures, exams and/or operation of diagnostic equipment as assigned including ECG, Spirometry or other applicable diagnostic equipment.

Enhances clinic services through the exchange of ideas and information with others. Conveys patient/customer dissatisfaction to appropriate personnel in a timely manner. Identifies educational needs of fellow associates. Communicates only pertinent information to appropriate personnel. Maintains confidentiality at all times. Assists with scheduling of patients. Assists with answering of telephone.

Cooperates with health care team members in meeting clinic goals by lending support, sharing ideas and resources, and maintaining rapport. Maintains patient files, records and other information. Compiles and condenses technical and statistical data for reports and records.

Evaluates patient and clinic needs, determining effectiveness of new and existing methods. Supports clinic services through a functional understanding of clinic policies and procedures. Shows initiative in maintaining professional growth and development by securing and sharing new information. Actively participates in work related meetings and committees and serves as a positive role model.

Perform related work as required.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to bodily fluids.

Typical Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Work will be stressful at times. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people.

Job Requirements: Work requires extensive technical or specialized training such as would be acquired in a college or technical school (e.g., CMA or LPN) and appropriate certification or registration of completion of specific program.

Knowledge of: clinic policies and procedures. Medical lab techniques, specimen collection, principles and instruments.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $19.00 per hour
