We are looking for you to join our team as a Mechanical and Turbine Engineering Manager 2/3 based out of Sunnyvale, CA. What you’ll get to do:
The Mechanical and Turbine Engineering Manager 2/3 is responsible for providing functional leadership and direction of the Aerothermal turbine analysis team, which consists of a staff of approximately 10 to 12 Aerothermal engineers. Responsibilities include leading a diverse team of highly engineers in the areas of Turbine development design and specialized turbine analysis, and engineering support of development testing and manufacturing of turbines used for Naval Propulsion and Power Generation. The position responsibilities also include management of time keeping, performance reviews, staffing and resource planning, training, and retention of the team.
Responsibilities also include:
- Provide project and technical oversight of design activities performed by the group
- Prepare cost estimates, provide proposal inputs, and review proposal content for both internal and external customers
- Increasing turbine design engineering competencies through employee development and strategic hiring
- Balancing employee needs with business goals
- Provide ownership of and direction to the design processes used in the group
- Basic understanding of the Design, Manufacturing and Test Integration process
- Support department initiatives, forecasting and recruiting, technology roadmap creation, and champion continuous process improvements
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 10 years of engineering experience; OR a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 8 years of engineering experience; OR a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 6 years of engineering experience.
- US Citizenship, with the ability to receive DoD Secret clearance (or higher).
- Strong fundamentals in Design Engineering for Machine Design
- Solid understanding of fundamentals of aerodynamics/thermodynamics
- Experience in technical, program, project, or functional/people management
- Proven track record of managing direct reports of various levels and disciplines
- Production issues resolution
- Strong leadership qualities, including excellent communication and collaboration, team engagement, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience as a Technical Lead, Project Manager, or other demonstrated leadership role related to program execution
- Understanding of turbine principals of operation, design and analysis
- Experience with common commercial analytical software tools to perform Aerothermal analyses (e.g. CFD)
- Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), requirements development, or technical project management experience preferred.
- Understanding and knowledge of Agile (SCRUM) techniques and activities.
- Knowledge of Design Engineering processes, procedures and work instructions required to support both management and engineering tasks
- Experience with proposals and Earned Value
