Job Title: Facilities Operations Technician
Rink: Sportscare Arena (Aspen Ice Arena)
Location: 16 Aspen Drive, Randolph , NJ 07869
Reports To: Facility Manager
Status: Part-Time; Non-Exempt
Summary:
This position is responsible for keeping the ice in first-rate condition. In addition, during time when not resurfacing ice, this role is responsible for maintaining equipment, and ensuring all related areas are clean and orderly, including maintaining the appearance of the rink areas, all grounds, warehouse “Zam” room and other areas as assigned. Facilities Operations Technicians must promote and maintain a positive and safe environment for skaters, guests, children, parents, and staff.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to read, write and to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to concentrate in a high stress, noisy game situations and crowds of people
- Experience working with hand tools and basic repair and maintenance
- Flexibility with work schedule, nights, weekends, and holidays required
- Job reliability, punctuality, diligence, dedication, and attention to detail
- Experience is preferred but not necessary we will train
Scope of Responsibilities:
- Operate (drive) and maintain ice resurfacing machines, ice edger, and all related equipment required for the maintenance of quality sheets of ice
- Ice shall be “cut” in accordance with the daily schedule. Ice edging should be performed at the end of the day, prior to the last cut of the night or when it is scheduled
- Ensure all equipment and tools necessary to fulfill ice maintenance tasks and building repairs are always available and in good working order.
- Report any equipment deficiencies to the Facility Manager
- Perform cleaning and maintenance of ice operations equipment o Includes periodic cleaning and wiping of all exterior surfaces of the machines o Changing of blades on conditioner and lubricating required fittings o Visual inspection of machine and its operation
- Keep work areas and equipment clean, organized and functional o Empty trash, sweep bench areas of each rink each morning and evening o Pick up debris and trash around perimeter of the building and dumpsters daily
o Empty trash and sweep resurfacer, maintenance and work areas nightly o Empty trash, clean restrooms, locker rooms, and all public areas o Repair and maintain goals frames and nets as needed
- Perform inspections of equipment and complete daily checklists and related documents
- Maintain records of ice thickness, ice temperatures, humidity readings, ambient air readings and dew point readings as outlined on checklists
- Participate in set-up and disassembly of hockey glass, dasher boards as needed
- Follow all driver guidelines, best practices and standards
- Follows Black Bear Sports Grouppolicies and procedures
- Report accidents or injuries and complete accident reports as required
- Perform other duties as assigned

- While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to complete work in a timely fashion. Position requires constant attention to precise details and the overall cleanliness of the facility.
Physical Demands:
Tasks involve frequent walking, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching and climbing as well as lifting and carrying objects of moderate to heavy weight and varying size and shape, sometimes overhead; perform strenuous or heavy manual work; minimal dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs or body in the operation of communications equipment. Tasks may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as heat, cold, wetness, dust, strong odors, strong and/or toxic chemicals, dust, noise and vehicular exhaust fumes
Work Environment:
- The essential functions of this position are performed indoors in an ice rink and occasionally outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environments is usually moderate to loud during events and minimal during non-event times.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $14.00 - $17.00 per hour
