Job Summary
Cadrex Westminster is seeking an experienced Mold Design Engineer who will support the Westminster, CO facility. The Mold Design Engineer will be responsible for collaborating with customers on their part files for quotation and tool construction. Must be able to identify, understand, and communicate Design for Manufacturability suggestions to customer engineering group. Designers will incorporate state-of-the-art mold making technology, metallurgy, and innovative new mold design strategies. Apply key design requirements, leading the development of mold design layouts and concepts. When necessary, must be able to initiate and complete fabrication ready full 3D mold design files in a timely manner.
Major Job Functions – other duties may be assigned:
- Work with program managers and customers to fully understand part design requirements and integrate requirements into the mold design.
- Using Scientific Molding techniques, improves and optimizes mold designs for productivity, longevity, and manufacturability of products.
- Manages complex projects and maintains tight project timelines and budgets.
- Research problems and develops and presents solutions to improve tooling standards, design for manufacturing guidelines, low-cost alternatives, assess new materials and material performance, new tooling processes and manage tooling suppliers and vendors.
- Serves on the Design Review Committee and acts as technical lead overseeing mold sampling, DOE’s, material samples, engineering changes, trouble shooting, problem solving and transitioning molds from trial to production.
- Coordinates with, manufacturing, quality, operations, program management, and other departments as required to ensure the timely completion of projects.
- Maintains part and tool design files.
- Promotes company-wide quality improvement efforts, a safe working environment and professional organizational behavior.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical material. Ability to communicate to common inquiries or complaints from customers, Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and vendors.,
Math Ability:
Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
Knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software and Database software. Must have a good working knowledge of calculations and formulas using applications within Excel. Strong 3D CAD skills.

Training, Certificates and Licenses:
Must complete new employee orientation, safety training, appropriate department and company procedures, and ISO training. No certifications needed. Formal training in Scientific Molding preferred. Previous machinist/toolmaking experience is desired.

Requirements:Qualifications:
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university.
Required Experience:
- 5+ years experience in Injection Mold Design and Engineering experience with strong 3D CAD design skills required.
- Must be able to identify and understand the function of all standard mold components.
- Word Processing, Spreadsheet and Database software experience.
- Ability to learn new technology.
- Must have a good working knowledge of calculations and formulas using applications within Excel.
- Self-directed - operate with little or no direction.
- 4 to 6 years related experience in a plastic manufacturing environment is preferred
- Moldflow experience is a plus.
